Emergency Medical Protection for International Adoption
Blue Cross Travel Insurance for International Adoption
When traveling abroad to complete your international adoption, it is important to have the right type of travel insurance to protect against unexpected medical emergencies.
Standard travel insurance including benefits provided through group insurance may be adequate for covering the new parents, but leave the newly adopted child uninsured. They are designed to cover expenses which are over and above OHIP. If an individual is not covered by OHIP, then the travel insurance does not insure them.
OHIP does not become effective for the adopted child until the parents have returned and registered with the Ministry. This can only be done in person after the child has arrived in Canada, and the Ministry has been presented with all the required documents. Therefore, since the child is not yet covered by OHIP, the travel insurance does not protect them.
We have addressed these important issues, through a special travel insurance plan designed specifically to meet the needs of adopting parents. We can provide you with peace of mind, that as soon as you are presented with your child, they will be covered for emergency health care until you arrive safely home.
Our insurer is a trusted name, Blue Cross Travel Insurance. Your coverage will include a special provision for Children Adopted Abroad. You can insure as a family - or insure just your child to cover their journey to Canada. Call us for more information or to get started at 1.877.278.5636.
